Love Letters
Senmi & Bishal

Senmi and Bishal were teenagers when they fell in love. They were told they were too young and that it wouldn't last. And over the next 11 years, they were asked more times than they could count when they'd finally get engaged. Then came Positano, the place Senmi had dreamed of for years. Read on to discover how Bishal popped the question, and why the moment was even more emotional than she expected.

Describe your relationship in one word. Why that word?

Senmi: Unbreakable. We've been together for more than 11 years now. We were just 15 and 16 when it started, still at school, with no idea what life would look like ahead of us. We've grown up together, changed together and been through so many different chapters side by side. Looking back, "unbreakable" feels like the perfect word for us.

How did you meet?

Senmi: We met through one of my closest friends when we were still at school. At that age, we obviously had no idea that the person I was falling in love with would one day become my fiancé. What started as a school romance slowly grew into something much deeper as we got older.

Not everyone believed in us. But no matter how much life changed, we kept finding our way back to each other.

How would you describe each other now?

Senmi: Honestly, not much has changed! I'm still that girl who worries a little too much about what people think, although much less than I used to. And Bishal is still exactly the same: calm, chilled and completely unbothered. He doesn't care what anyone thinks, except his family and, of course, mine!

Some feelings never become ordinary, no matter how long you've been together.

What made the proposal location special?

Senmi: Italy has always been my dream country. I honestly don't know why, but there's just something about it I've always loved. I dream of exploring every part of it one day: the cities, the little villages, the coastline, everything.

Positano had been one of my dream destinations for so long, and I always imagined going there to do something really special. So when we set the date for our engagement, we decided that's where it would happen. Seeing a place I'd dreamed about for years become part of such an important chapter for us made it even more meaningful.

What moment from the day stands out most?

Senmi: Even after more than 11 years together, I never expected it to feel quite like that. When Bishal was about to put the ring on my finger and started saying the words he'd prepared, he became so emotional. His eyes filled with tears, his voice was trembling, and he was almost shaking.

Seeing him still get that emotional after all these years made it even more special. We'd already shared more than a decade of love, memories and life together, but seeing how much that moment meant to him reminded me that some feelings never become ordinary, no matter how long you've been together.

What was your first reaction to the proposal?

Senmi: Honestly, a mixture of shock, happiness, pride and "is this really happening?!" After being together so long, I knew the proposal would come one day, but actually experiencing it was completely different. I was emotional, overwhelmed and incredibly happy. It was one of those moments where everything around you disappears for a second and it's just the two of you.

Did 11 years ever feel like a long wait?

Senmi: To everyone around us, maybe it felt like we were taking too long. But to me, it was never too long, because deep down we always knew we'd be part of each other's future. I really believe everything happens in its own perfect time.

If I had to wait all over again just to get to this exact moment with him, I would. Every single time.

What's your favourite thing about being engaged?

Senmi: Finally being able to say, "We're engaged!" For years, I kept getting asked, "When are you getting engaged?" and "When are you getting married?" Now I finally have an answer!

But more than the ring or the new titles, it's knowing that after so many highs and lows, we're still here, still choosing each other. Those two kids who barely understood what love meant somehow held on to something so real, and today, they're engaged.
