Fifth man convicted of £40m jewellery theft

It has been billed as Britain’s biggest gem heist ever and now a fifth person has been sentenced for their role in the £40million jewellery raid at Graff’s Mayfair flagship in 2009.

The raid, which took place in August 2009 saw a gang of men pass the shop’s security by posing as ageing customers dressed in smart suits. However, once firmly in the store, the men pulled guns on the staff and after just two minutes the thieves had stolen 43 pieces of jewellery.

The first of the five men was convicted in June 2010 with three other arrests following shortly after. According to Sky News, it is believed that the police are still on the lookout for the motorcyclist who is thought to be the one to have made off with the jewels.
