A bed of diamonds

British designer Stuart Hughes has long nurtured a reputation for turning the everyday into something spectacular, by famously encrusting the banal with diamonds. Hughes previous diamond-designs have included mobile phones and flat screen TVs but he has now turned his hand to furniture design.

The designer has teamed up with Italian furniture master craftsmen to create the Baldacchino Supreme – a literal bed of diamonds.

The frame is made of wood, while a staggering $5million worth of107kg of 24-carat gold leaf borders the entire bed. However, it is always the custom details which really impress and in typical Hughes-style the headboard can be (optionally) encrusted with diamonds.

The exact sum of the diamond bed is, as of yet, unknown although it’s sure to be expensive enough to cause a few sleepless nights.
