Monday
In the week that was, Monday got off to great start. Emma Bunton made sure she kept her private-life private when she revealed her engagement on live TV over the weekend. And in a remarkable display of restraint, Kate Middleton and Wills are said to have asked for donations to charity instead of overblown gestures, like diamonds. Oh Kate, so friggin’ down-to-earth.
Irish-American households the world- over celebrated the news that Riverdance creator Jean Butler has turned her fabulously successful and well-rounded hand to jewellery design. Expect modern twists on the Shamrock. Not even kidding...
Tuesday
Tuesday saw some big industry news; Petra Diamonds raised the funds to buy the Finsch mine from De Beers in South Africa, while on the opposite end of the spectrum, musical diamond Neil got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Katy Perry also announced that Brit band Marina & The Diamonds will be her world tour support act in what is shaping up to be every Teenage Boy’s Dream...
Wednesday
Indeed, it proved to be a great week for the Brits as on Wednesday it was announced that The King’s Speech had been nominated for a staggering 12 Oscars. Remember to stay tuned for all the red carpet diamond details next month by the way.
Thursday
By the end of the week it seemed that the world was awash with engagements and engagement rumours. First up was Countdown totty Rachel Riley, who revealed that she’d designed her own ring.
Then parents-to-be Matt Bellamy and Kate Hudson were spotted looking suspiciously...umm...engaged in London. Queue a flurry of internet rumours and then the cursory flat-out denial. ...We public are always the last to know.
Friday
Meanwhile, Natalie Portman showcased her green credentials, revealing that her fiancé designed the trinket with recycled platinum and certifiably conflict-free diamonds. Erhem, I might add that 77 Diamonds ONLY EVER deal in conflict-free diamonds...
Next up was Jennifer Love Hewitt, who took to the Ellen DeGeneres show to scare off boyfriend of less-than-a-year Alex Beh, as she revealed she’s already put three rings on hold in LA, should he want to get hitched anytime. Riiiight. And finally, the great engagement gaze fixed firmly on former Bond girl Halle Berry today. Spotted wearing a diamond sparkler on her ring finger during a trip out in her hometown of LA, it prompted fervent speculation that boyfriend Olivier Martinez had popped le question. Ooh la la indeed.
