Bling Bling….Engagement rings in the world of Celebrity

The word of celebrity is always evolving. It is a constant battle of who has the biggest and best. Naturally, this is the same situation when it comes to diamonds, in particular diamond engagement rings. In this article we explore past and present celebrity engagement ring trends!

Fancy Shapes

Fancy shaped diamonds are becoming increasingly popular, as they add an edge of individuality. Shapes such as pear and oval have had a lot of attention in the celebrity world, owing to the fact that Kathrine Heigel was given a 3 carat pear shape engagement ring recently. Tom Cruise also chose an oval stone to present to Katie Holmes. Fitting with their untraditional wedding, Kid Rock opted for something fun and modern and chose a heart shaped diamond for Pamela Anderson. Carmen Electra was given a 3 carat, round black diamond. This certainly ensured that she stood out from the crowd!

Fancy Colours

Fancy coloured diamonds are also very popular. Mariah Carey was given a 17 carat (!!) engagement ring by husband Nick Cannon, reportedly costing an amazing two and a half million dollars. The centre 17 carat stone is Fancy Light Pink in colour and is surrounded by Intense Pink Diamonds.

Does size really matter?

According to the size of the diamonds of many celebrities, size really does matter. Paris Hilton was given an unbelievable 24 carat emerald engagement ring! More recently, Khloe Kardashian was a 9 carat radiant cut engagement ring which she proudly sported after just one month of dating.

Diamond Encrusted Wedding Bands and Engraving

Rachel Steven’s got married earlier this year in an elaborate ceremony. She revealed that as well as exchanging Jewish wedding bands, engraved with the date of their wedding and their names, lucky Rachel has another diamond encrusted band; “I have another wedding band to go with my engagement ring, it’s beautiful. Its platinum, set with the same diamonds as my engagement ring all the way around it”.

Rachel’s decisions are a prime example of the increasing popularity of having diamond encrusted wedding rings to match the engagement ring, rather than the traditional plain wedding band. Engraving is also popular personal touch to make the exchanging of rings even more special.

Bespoke Engagement Rings

In the battle of celeb world, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. Stars are pulling rank by designing their own bespoke engagements ring, to ensure the worst doesn’t happen: someone else has a similar one to theirs! Bespoke rings are a great way to incorporate individuality, creativity and personal touches to a ring. After all, it’s bought in mind of lasting forever, and is a symbol of union.

Five months after her fiancée got down on one knee to propose to her, Jennifer Hudson did the same. Hudson returned the favour, presenting him with a five carat, personally designed Neil Lane ring. “Jennifer wanted to give him something really special when she asked David to marry her," Lane was quoted as saying. It seems that the famous jewellery designer built a good relationship with the Dreamgirls' star after working with her for months to design the handmade “architectural and geometric” platinum and diamond men’s ring, which is “masculine, yet has a lot of sparkle”. Her ring, also from Neil Lane, boasts a five carat centre stone surrounded with pave set diamonds on the outside and around the band.

Even though the returned gesture is far from traditional and may not be to everybody’s style, it’s the thought that counts. And it’s clear that a lot of thought really did go into the designing of both rings. That’s one of the advantages that comes from a bespoke designed ring. Your exact specifications can be taken into account; finishing in a perfect and personal treasured finished product that is sure to impress!
