Natasha describes it as the best day of her life. After five years of dating, Ian took Natasha on a ski trip to France and asked for Natasha’s hand in marriage at the top of the French Alps during Christmas, her favourite time of year. Since their first meeting, the couple have been inseparable. Meet retail manager Natasha Blundell and solicitor Ian Cargin who hail from Co. Down Northern Ireland.
The couple first met on a night out with friends. “My friend and I were sitting in a booth in at a nightclub in Belfast when this tall, blonde handsome guy came and sat down beside my friend. He started talking to my friend to find out if I was single. A few minutes later, we were inseparable, we spent the next hour or so talking and kissing and laughing. When I went to head home, he asked for my number. We started talking the next morning and a week later, we went on our first date,” Natasha reminisces. “Nearly five years later, we have our home and our little rascal, Phoebe, a puggle.”
“We both knew from very early on that there was something special that we had found in each other; it’s a little cliché but we both feel like we found the missing piece of our life. Anything that had to do with our future, I couldn’t imagine Ian not being by my side. He’s made my life whole and so full of love, I couldn’t be happier. We both knew we had finally found a true pure love within a few months of meeting,” Natasha shares.
The couple were on holiday with Natasha’s mother and brother in Meribel, France for the Christmas holidays last winter. On Christmas Eve, Natasha’s brother surprised her with VIP access to popular party venue La Folie Douce up near the top of the Alps, for Christmas Day.
After a morning of skiing and snowboarding, the group headed up to Folie in the ski lift basking in the afternoon sun. “We get to Folie and have the most amazing view of the Alps around us covered in snow; the sky was completely blue, and the sun was shining. A glass of champagne later, Ian suggests my brother takes a picture of us on the slope just behind Folie.”
“Ian takes my hand and leads me to the ski slope behind us which was completely deserted. We get my brother to take some photos and turn to take in the view, when his voice starts to break – ‘Natasha you’re my best friend, and there’s nowhere else I could think of being more perfect to ask you this question.’ He gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. Of course, I immediately said yes, and my brother got it all on video which is so magical to watch back. The surroundings, the day, the ring, everything was perfect. The staff at Folie celebrated with us and the celebrating hasn’t really stopped,” Natasha beams.
The engagement ring
Ian chose the engagement ring and even asked for Natasha’s mother’s help, after asking for her permission to propose. Ian selected a Fancy Light Yellow cushion-shape diamond which he had set in 77 Diamonds’ Delicacy ring in platinum. “I couldn’t believe how perfect the choice of ring was and that he had chosen every aspect just makes it so special. I was in complete shock and still admire it every day,” says Natasha.
The couple’s wedding will take place in Ireland at Clonabreany House near Kells in Co. Meath in April next year with 90 guests in attendance. The ceremony, reception and afterparty are all within the same grounds. “One of the highlights so far has been visiting the 77 Diamonds showroom in London and choosing our wedding rings (a massive thank you to James who couldn’t have been more helpful, knowledgeable and friendly).”
