The world's most expensive Barbie doll has been sold at the Christies Jewels: New York Sale. The bespoke Barbie doll, adorned with a one-carat pink diamond necklace surrounded by three-carat white diamonds, eventually sold for £191,000. The auction also saw the sale of a very expensive and rare blue diamond too.
Jeweller Stefano Canturi designed the doll's black strapless dress, peep-toe black heels and even styled the doll's blonde hair and all proceeds from the toy are going to towards breast cancer research.
The sale has beaten the previous world auction record for a Barbie doll, by some considerable margins. That Barbie, sold in 2006 at another Christies sale in London went for the, relatively, smaller sum of £10,785.
