Former TV presenter of the children’s show Blue Peter, Konnie Huq, has married TV critic Charlie Brooker in a ceremony in Las Vegas over the weekend.
The couple had concealed their romance for months before getting engaged, but it has now been confirmed that they have tied the knot. The pair has only been dating for around 9 months but did know each other well beforehand. Their engagement was announced in June this year.
The presenter has expressed her wish for a low key, impromptu wedding in the past after the secretive relationship emerged and even seemed nonchalant about flashing any engagement ring in public. Showbiz newspapers and magazines are looking out for the first glimpse of a diamond wedding band.
Talking about the wedding ceremony, a friend reported to the Mirror: “They wanted to marry as soon as possible and managed to squeeze a few days out of their schedules,
“They didn't want it to be a big thing so they went on their own and didn't have any friends or family there.
“It was simple and elegant. Konnie wore a white dress and Charlie wore a suit. They’re blissfully happy and are thrilled to be married.”
25-year-old Huq recently took over the role of host for Xtra Factor from Holly Willoughby. The show is a spin off of the ITV talent show programme X Factor.
Previously Huq was a chief presenter on the show Blue Peter for eleven years for the period between 1997 and 2008.
Brooker is a TV critic and is the face of the BBC4 show Screenwipe which was nominated for a Bafta award earlier this year.
39-year-old Brooker is also a columnist for The Guardian newspaper and was responsible for writing the zombie horror film called Dead Set, which took place on the set of TV reality show Big Brother.
Describing their personality match, Huq has said: Huq commented on their relationship in a recent interview with Look Magazine, saying that they were well suited to each other: "We're not opposite attract as people think,"
"I've got more of an evil sense of humour than people realise and although Charlie's job is to be critical, he's more of a softie than you'd think," she added.
"We've known each other for years,"
"We met at the Edinburgh Festival and always got on well."
