Damien Hirst shocks again with diamond-encrusted baby skull

British artist Damien Hirst has yet again lived up to his infamous reputation and caused a stir with his latest work, a diamond encrusted baby's skull entitled "For Heaven's Sake."

Set by jewellers to the British royal family Bentley & Skinner in platinum and over 8,000 white and pink diamonds, this new work is sure to raise even more controversy than his 2007 skull which ultimately sold for £50 million, becoming the most expensive piece of contemporary artwork in history.

When asked to explain his work, he responded, "when you look at a skull, you think it represents the end, but when you see the end so beautiful, it gives you hope."

"Diamonds are about perfection and clarity and wealth and sex and death and immortality," the artist explained, "They are a symbol of everything that's eternal, but then they have a dark side as well."

"For Heaven's Sake" is set to be displayed at the Gagosian's exhibition space in Hong Kong later this month, and is expected in London later this year.
