Red Carpet Rocks: ELLE Style Awards 2011

Red Carpet Rocks: ELLE Style Awards 2011

It’s a huge date in the fash pack’s calendar and an annual precursor to February’s London Fashion Week. So it was unsurprising to see the great and the good from the fashion world at London’s Connaught Rooms for the ELLE Style Awards last night.

Pear-Shaped Vintage
It was an evening where the cocktail dress reigned supreme as many of the Britain’s fashion finest plumped for short and flirty styles. Fresh from BAFTA red carpet glory, Emma Watson changed tact arriving in a blush pink Hakaan mini dress with nude heels which was beautifully accompanied by a stacked bracelet-effect gold cuff interspersed with diamonds. However, host Alexa Chung flouted the shorter trend, instead emceeing the evening in a cornflower blue Yves Saint Laurent midi dress. The fashion muse paired her peek-a-boo panelled dress with two diamond pendant necklaces set in yellow gold along with an oversized pear-shaped diamond cocktail ring.

Ballerina Diamond Hoop Earrings

However, it wasn’t just rings and cuffs that stood out, diamond earrings did too. Vivienne Westwood rocked a pair of huge chandelier ones, while actress Jaime Winston teamed her quirky lace detail black mini with stunning bespoke wing detail diamond earrings; the perfect foil to her fur chubby. Indeed, the Brits did us proud last night as M&S model Lisa Snowdon proved she’s worth her fashion salt with a revealing LBD off-set with classic diamond hoops.

As well as cut-away detailing, yellow gold packed a huge punch on the ESA red carpet, with Chanel’s new spokesmodel Blake Lively teaming an Emilio Pucci dress with simple gold and diamond drop earrings. While singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor sported two solitaire diamond rings set in yellow gold with her pale pink vintage dress.

Ballerina Bracelet in Rose Gold

Interestingly, in spite of the pressure to earn some serious fashion stripes, the jewellery was kept relatively simple ad classic. Fearne Cotton’s short black shift with exaggerated bubble shoulders was excellently showcased with simple rose and white gold-set eternity rings, while winner of Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Helena Christensen paired her Saloni paint-brush effect dress with a slim diamond bracelet.
